“Birdie” wins Satakielenrinne competition

Verstas Architects’ and LOCI Landscape Architects’ entry “Birdie” has won the invited competition for the development of the Satakielenrinne area in Tapiola.

Located in the heart of the prestigious Tapiola, “Birdie” is a new interpretation of the districts garden city ideals of combining urban living with nature. The competition was organized by the city of Espoo.

    Aalto University buildings topping-out

    Topping-out celebration for Aalto University Väre & Maarintie 13 buildings in Otaniemi was held on November 2nd.

    The buildings comprising School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Metro Centre and the School of Business will be completed in two stages between spring 2018 and early 2019.

        Verstas wins in Arabia

        Verstas’ entry “Kilta” wins shared first prize in Arabia 135 architecture competition for the renewal of historic Arabia factory area in Helsinki.

        Arabia 135 is a significant urban infill project in Helsinki. The old factory area will house apartments, offices, retail premises and services including Arabia-library, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Pop & Jazz Conservatory and Lume Media Centre. The invited competition was organized by Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company.

          Construction work starts at Syvälahti school

          Construction work for Syvälahti school on Hirvensalo island in Turku has started. The multipurpose building comprising comprehensive school for 800 children, kindergarten, public library and child health centre is scheduled for completion in spring 2018 with the first school year starting in August.

              Verstas wins Rovaniemi Hospital competition

              Verstas Architects has won the open architecture competition for the extension of Lapland Central Hospital. The 39 000 m² extension,  including e.g. emergency unit, psychiatric unit, children’s hospital and outpatient clinics, almost doubles the hospital’s current premises.

              Verstas’ winning entry provides a flexible framework for the development of the Rovaniemi hospital campus. Functional entity enhances the healing process by paying attention to the patient and coziness of the hospital environment.

                Suomi Seven exhibition at MFA 24.3. – 17.5.2015

                Exhibition of emerging architects from Finland premiered at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) in autumn 2014. The exhibition has now arrived in Helsinki showcasing the projects of seven selected practices at the Museum of Finnish Architecture. Saunalahti School and a preview of Aalto Campus are presented at the exhibition.

                  HUS Trauma & Cancer Centre competition

                  Verstas has been shortlisted in HUS Trauma & Cancer Centre competition as part of consortium LPSV. The competition task comprises 85 000 m2 of new buildings in Meilahti hospital campus in Helsinki. Verstas’ collaborators in the consortium are Arkkitehtitoimisto Lukkaroinen, Arkkitehtitoimisto Paatela & Co and Arkkitehtitoimisto Tuomo Siitonen.
