Tunturi Daycare Centre

Description:
Situated in the verdant suburb of Mellunmäki and on the edge of Korvatunturintori square, the Tunturi Daycare Centre brings the surrounding natural landscape to life. Bare Finnish bedrock connects with the daycare yard and the rocky theme is continued by the meandering roof shapes. The building’s main façade is mostly earthy red brick while the façade facing the yard as well as the utility sheds are clad in wood.
With capacity for educating 150 children, the daycare building can provide suitable spaces for more than just the local children. For example, the daycare’s gym is available for neighbourhood use during off-hours. This space opens out towards the Korvatunturinaukio square. A public art piece will adorn the sqauare-side lower façade for the enjoyment of passers-by.
