New trauma and cancer center connects seamlessly to current Meilahti Hospital premises. It’s structured into four parts in accordance with town plan conditions and operational objectives: the Trauma Centre’s “plinth”, “the bridge” with common services and facilities, the patient wards and the cancer center.
Smoothly curved facades of the bridge and cancer center embrace the main entrance and bare rocks in the heart of the campus. Above the glass façaded plinth parsed by recessed green courtyards, rises the new patient ward volume. Its curvy figure orientates patient rooms towards open views and brings a rich addition to the campus, yet subordinate to the existing hospital tower.
