Hirvensalo School is a communal multipurpose building located in the hilly scenery of Hirvensalo island in Turku. The building combines its main functions, comprehensive school and daycare centre, with services including public library, youth centre and child health centre, gathered under one roof for benefits in energy efficiency and synergy.
Natural materials, wood and brick, incorporate the building to its surroundings, offering warmth and friendliness. The building defines a welcoming entrance plaza by the street side. School yards open up towards favourable sun directions. They are divided into smaller bays, inviting children out for play. The dining hall by the main entrance is the core of the building.
