Load-bearing wooden elements are exposed in the staircase.
Wooden floor and ceiling surfaces with full height windows provide the apartments with cosy warm atmosphere.

    Description:

    KOAS Seminaarinmäki is a block of two wooden student housing buildings in the Jyväskylä, Finland, a university town well known of its architecture. The buildings are located between the Jyväskylä University campuses and the city centre. KOAS Seminaarinmäki relates to the wooden houses of the prestigious Seminaarinmäki area and occupies a prime spot when approaching the city from the west.

    The student housing comprises prefabricated apartment units constructed of cross laminated timber (CLT). The two buildings contain 94 studio flats and 9 flats with a separate bedrooms. The units were assembled in Kuhmo, Finland and delivered to the site.

    The cross-laminated timber elements is exposed in the staircases. Wood is visible also in the ceilings of the flats and on the ash floors. Ample windows are floor to ceiling height. The surface materials and generous windows provide the student flats with cozy, spacious atmosphere.

    Status

    Commission. In progress, scheduled completion December 2018.
