Lapland Central Hospital

Lapland Central Hospital
Description:
The patient-centered design develops the Rovaniemi Central Hospital into a hospital of the future.
The hospital is easy to approach and has a warm, humane appearance. Verstas Architects won an architecture competition of the hospital in 2015. The designed 39 000 m² extension nearly doubles the current premises of the hospital. It includes e.g. a new emergency unit, a psychiatric unit, a children’s hospital and outpatient clinics. An airy, spacious internal street connects new and old premises.
The extension adds a new architectural layer to the hospital campus. Its architecture highlights patient comfort that supports healing. This quality stems from the architectural appearance, layout, materials, natural light and the presence of nature.
The Lapland Central Hospital extension is an alliance project. The alliance members are Verstas Architects, YIT Suomi, Are, Granlund, WSP, Geobotnia and L2 Paloturvallisuus.
