Description:
The new daycare centre Pelimanni ja Tiuku is located in Kannelmäki area, replacing the old daycare building from the 1970s. The ground floor common areas are accessed by the main entrance. The second floor entrances can be approached via the playground. From the playground, there is a covered staircase and a corridor leading to the third floor entrance. The playground is designed to be as natural as possible. The aim is to preserve the terrain and trees in the northern part of the plot, where the site borders the Aurinkokallio forest park hosting protected fortification structures from World War I.
The façades bordering the various entrances to the building are wood-clad and framed by protective canopies and partitions. The other main material of the façades is a light hand laid brick, which is enlivened by combining different types of stacking techniques into eventual horizontal layers. The sloping roof and a low eave create pleasant natural light conditions for the playground.
