Description:
The new rapidly urbanizing Postipuisto district is developing into an efficient layout of apartment blocks with an emphasis and common theme of community. The residential buildings of Postipuisto form perimeter blocks that clearly define the street space. The Postipuisto Daycare Centre is prominently situated on a hillside plot at the intersection of Lavakatu and Kollikatu and will work as a meeting point for local residents.
The brick-clad first floor, which connects to the street level, contains the most public spaces of the building that also serve communal use. The wood-clad second floor includes the children’s areas. These cozy and private children’s spaces face Kollikallio, a natural rock surface that integrates into the playground. The paper fold shaped roof, along with its canopies, emphasizes the intimate scale of the courtyard. Simultaneously, this architectural motif creates a noteworthy cityscape at the intersection together with the overhang of the main entrance.
